Towards A New Life – Bd – Pts – Band



TOWARDS A NEW LIFE by Josef Suk (1929-2011) is transcribed by Ron Stilwell. Josef Suk created this work in 1919 as a patriotic march dedicated to the young Czechoslovakian Army fighting to protect the endangered Southern districts of Slovakia. The same year he entered his work, then titled only “New Life” in a competition to select a new festive march for the upcoming Sokol festival. Upon winning, Suk scored the work for Symphonic Orchestra and for Brass Band. The first performance took place in 1920 when the Brass Band marched at the 7th Sokol Festival. This festive march won first prize in the 1932 Olympic Games competition in Los Angeles, During WW II, the fanfare opened the radio broadcasts produced by the Czech government in English. Concert Band.
