Description
SHOSTAKOVICH IN BLUE is a work by Laura E. Schumann composed in 2006 in honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975). This piece provides some of the common rhythms, motives, and energy found in Shostakovich’s work but with a bluesy (minor/major) repetitive pattern in the basses. This work has energy, drive, a sense of humor, and some 20th century harmonies all within a framework young students can successfully grasp and enjoy. A most appealing introduction to this mighty composer! String Orchestra (Violin 1-2, Viola, Violoncello, Contrabass). Set of Score and Parts. Grade: 3-4 Duration: 4:41
